i am somewhat new to being a feral cat advocate/caregiver.

in these few years i have been involved i have been able to tnr; 1 beautiful female tuxedo mom (mommie) and her 5 babies, another gorgeous ragdoll mix mom (pretty girl) and her 2 babies, one older (10 year old is what the vet guessed) black and white male (spottie), 2 young (at the time 6-12 months) brothers, one a tuxedo (bootsie) and the other a gray tiger top/all white underside (limpy), a 1-1.5 year old all black male (blackie), and 1 year old male tuxedo (malcolm).

i also have become rather good, if i do say so myself :) , at making shelters for feral cats - new and better insulation, a covered "foyer" area, etc.

oh yeah, i almost forgot to add that i have socialized 2 of them. pretty girl, who is my avatar and spottie, who is now residing with my parents out in the country.

I'm not sure if I qualify or not.
I've never caught a cat myself, but I have worked with a lady who traps ferals in my old neighborhood; I brought a cage and food to a man who had several around his house. I believe they were all fixed except momma. He kept two and gave the other two away.
I also have put out a trap for a feral and her baby in my apartment complex. I never caught her, but did put out food for her in strategic places. I also climbed a tree to try to catch the baby. Sadly I haven't seen either in over a month now. :(
I also almost caught a feral in front on my local Petco. I've still got the scars to prove it.

Hi, It began with a feral cat who had kittens in my father's back yard. I never knew what happened to the first litter but when I realized she had another litter-I only saw 2 -my dad would go out into the yard and feed her and sit to talk to her but she was very obviously wild. I ended up being able to catch one kitten-it was sick and I took it to the SPCA which is no kill but it died. Then I learned about TNR and I trapped the mother got her fixed and after a couple of months the remaining kitten allowed me to pet and pick her up-she went to the SPCA to be spayed and was socialized for adoption. After that I ended up TNR-ing another female and 2 of her kittens-then another female-now I have 4 fixed and 2 more to trap. They all live safely in our backyard with lots of safe, warm shelters in an enclosed shed porch and basement of a sunporch with lots of cozy beds, plenty of clean water in a heated bowl, wet food twice daily, unlimited dry and flea medicine that mixes in food. There is food and water for any cat who comes by. The first cat I TNR'd was accidently released in the house and has not left-3 years on! We can't touch her but she is fat, happy and content indoors. She loves my dad's cat(we now have 5 indoor cats) 7 ferals outdoors! I do hope people quit dumping their cats but I will always try to TNR any ferals. Our SPCA also gives them their first shots-I don't know how I can continue shots though. I don't think I could trap a cat a second time!

You sure qualify in my book! Thanks for helping the cats!

And it's probably never a good idea to try and catch a feral cat with your bear hands (I have similar scars to yours from something very similar
)

Well, I didn't know at first that she was so feral, she was crying for help under a car and it broke my heart. :bawling: I got within 1 foot of her by opening a can but she seemed hesitant to let me touch her. I trued to scruff her but did it wrong, and she bit down on my hand X___X

Thanks for the badge! :D

Just wanted to add a warm welcome, since this is your first post here on TCS
It would be great if you could take a few minutes to introduce yourself in our New Cats on the Block forum!

I have always seemed to attract strays and ferals.  But this last year,  I probably could not have done what I have done without the advice and guidance and support of the wonderful friends on this site.

Last November I was asked to take over a colony of 9 cats,  which turned out to actually be 11,  none of which were altered and some were kittens.  The caretaker was moving and I was worried about feeding every day on her property should someone buy her townhouse.  After discussion here,  I decided to bring the youngest cats into my home,  all feral.  I brought 8 into my home,  3 have been adopted out.   There are 2 remaining at the house and have now been welcomed next door,  the neighbor lets me keep a feeding station and heated house and other shelter for them.

I also am involved with a great TNR group and we just completed a project where 30 ferals were living in a junk yard.  We TNR'ed all adults and I took in the kittens last summer-a total of 13.  I sadly lost one of the kittens,  and I still have 3 awaiting adoptions but the remaining kittens were socialized and adopted into wonderful homes.

I have met some wonderful new people because of these beautiful creatures.

I try to catch all the un-tipped community cats I see, to make sure they are fixed & have basic shots. There is a great low-cost clinic in my town that provides sliding scale free to $35 spay/neuter if you live in certain income brackets, and I am on the poor end so all mine are free. Their distemper, FeLV and rabies jabs are $40 altogether so I do that when I can afford to. I am currently working on catching a night phantom who will not come to eat in the daytime!

I started helping Feral Kitties a little over 20 years ago.

We have Fostered and socialized, and found (or given) homes to at least 12 of them.

2 of our 4 current Fosters have recently found their Forever Homes.

Currently I am caring for a small colony and I am nearly finished with the TNR for the newest members.

I am glad that "Friend of Ferals" was the one that won the vote

I am absolutely a friend of ferals and have rehabilitated and socialized many feral foster kitties. Carma, the organization I foster for deals primarily with ferals, doing mostly TNR, but we also deal with stray and abandoned kitties in need.

Hi there!

I  currently have a colony in my yard.  Mommy, Flowerpot Kittie, Sweet girl, Pretty Girl, Shy Baby and Murphy's Brother.  (all have been fixed)

I trap and release ferals/strays that pass thru. (and end up feeding them)!

There is  dry food on my porch 24/7 and I have many stray cats pass thru and have a meal.

I have 4 inside babies, Spike and Chloe who showed up on the porch.  Boo, my husband found her treed by dogs while on a motorcycle ride, and Murphy my sweet shy boy, he was one of Mommies feral babies before I FINALLY was able to catch her.  She was a tricky kitty.

Currently there is a Kittie in the garage that is going to the Vet in the morning.  She showed up Friday night and is skin and  bones with a huge sore/hairless spot on her side.  I pray it is not Feline AIDS.  I have taken 2 other stays to the vet/clinic who tested positive for it.  This sweet girl is obviously from a good home, she is declawed (yuck), and has super clean ears.  I am hoping to find her family thru the humane society, if not and she has a clean bill of health I hope to find a home for her.  (My county has a 3 pet rule) ouch!  Over that!

I also help with a colony at an abandoned bank, I feed them in the PM and also donate $25 to PAWS Atlanta monthly, this is my husbands Christmas present to me!  LOVE him!!!

Yes like many Cat People I carry the 15 pound bag of cat food in the back of my car "just in case"

I am very proud of my CCL status, I inherited it from Dad who always had animals following him, I am sure he is an Angel in heaven taking care of pets everywhere who need some love.

I love, love, love my babies and pray that people will spay, neuter and not go to breeders for pets!
